c. 1836 Philip L. Smith shelf clock Mahagony cased column and cornice shelf clock. Reverse painted glasses in upper and lower door are poor replacements. Lower door flanked by cyma moldings (consoles). Turned ball shaped feet. Wood painted dial with lunar shaped cut-out exposing the escapement. Gold colored spandrels in corners. Heavy 8-day brass time and strike movement mounted on a seat board, strap font plate, solid back plate with blanked out center sections, 12-hour count wheel, cut pinions. Label reads "Eight Day Brass Clocks, Manufactured by Philip L. Smith, Marcellus, Onondaga County, N.Y. |
