Description |
Has Quartz Crystal This timepiece has a quartz crystal controlled synchronous motor and is the most accurate timekeeper known to science in general use. The properties of quartz crystals were first applied to horology in 1929 by Warren A. Marrison. The quartz crystal is connected to the grid of a triode and placed in an oscillating circuit. This is combined with the natural frequency of teh quartz which then becomes a time standard. The frequency of the vibration of quartz is approximately 100,000 cps. It is reduced electronically to drive the synchronous motor which works the hands of the timekeeper. |
