Description |
Walnut cased bracket clock, side openings of case fitted with pierced, case brass panels, with cherub faces, backed with cloth dust covers; bell top with 5 brass flame finials. The bell top has a horizontal brass insert across its center. The reeded plinth of the center finial flanked by brass wings. The 7" dial has an engraved and silvered chapter ring with a matted center and cast brass spandrels; silent-strike indicator in arch above dial with spandrels on either side; date calendar aperture. A opening below the XII contains a silvers plate engraved "Yeldrae Notron, London "and the number "2393". "Yeldrae Notron" is the anagram of "Eardley Norton", appearing on a few examples of his clocks thought to be made for export to Russia or Poland.. Brass base with brass bracket feet. Burnished and blued steel hands. Brass surrounds in the door; cast brass inserts on either side of the door arch with fabric backing. Brass inserts in the corners of the case, front and back. The 8-day time and strike movement is powered by two mainspring barrels and fusees, with a short "bell" type pendulum bob. Cable is used rather than fusee chain. The escapement is crown wheel and verge.The strike train uses a single bell to sound the hours and half-hour, with a pull repeat to indicate the previous hour. The back plate is profusely engraved |
