Description |
Mahagony veneered triple decker shelf clock. Carved eagle splat (not original to this clock), grain painted upper and lower columns with gilded capitals and bases, center columns gilded, ball feet. Both tablets replaced. 8-day weight driven brass movement with riveted strap plates, rolling pinions, and pewter winding drums. Painted wood dial with black chapter ring, gold numerals, spandrels and center decoration. Lunar shaped cut-out above the center arbor with a mirror backing. Label reads "Patent Brass Eight-Day Clocks, Manufactured by Dyer, Wadsworth & Co., Augusta, Georgia." Label was printed by the States Rights Sentinel Office, in Augusta. The clock was proably manufactured in Bristol, Ct. by Birge & Ives or Birge, Mallory & Co. and marketed by Dyer, Wadsworth & Co.
