Model 21 Marine Chronometer 12 Hr Dial Made for Theodore R. Schwalm in 1945 The marine chronometer, also known as a box chronometer, is primarily made for use in determining the longitude at sea. It consists of a fusee and chain movement fitted into a brass housing which is mounted in gymbals to maintain it in a horizontal position while in use at sea. The larger box is a shipping box. This particular presentation model has a 48-hour run and uses the standard 12-hour dial. The Earnshaw escapement is commonly used in chronometers. |
