Description |
30-hour time, strike, and alarm brass lantern-style movement. Strike train immediately behind the time train. Utilizes Huygens endless chain, which maintains driving power while weight is being raised. Alarm set at dial center. Count wheel striking system. Clock strikes the hour and half-hour. The pendulum is suspended from the backboard. Pendulum bob can be seen through brass openwork of urn and birds. Arch dial has low relief brass surrounds of mythological figures directly screwed into dial. Dial is painted with two water nymphs in the center. In the arch is a painted scene of a town with men, a boat, a fence, and a dog. Staartklock, or Tail Clock, style case is made of tulip wood. Half columns flank the dial, and each have a brass capital and base. Elaborate inlay detail all over the case. Floral design is inlaid on pediment, half columns, tail, and sides. Butterfly inlay at very bottom of tail. Carved scroll design on the sides at the intersection of the tail and dial. Intricate cutout panels in vine motif are located over the dial and on both sides of case. Broken pediment with large urn finial. |
