Description |
The Sangamo Electric Co. was founded in the 1890s and operated in spaces rented from the Illinois Watch Company. Illinois watch escapements (in this case, a 7 jewel) were used until Hamilton Watch bought out Illinois in 1927. From that point on, Hamilton escapements (11 jewel) were used. The Hamilton-Sangamo Corporation was formed in 1929 with each company an equal partner. The motor of this particular Sangamo winds a mainspring which has a power reserve of 24 hours. Later models used both automatic and nonautomatic synchronous motors. Production ceased in 1931 when the company was bought by General Time Instruments Corporation. |
