Description |
Walnut Chippendale style case with molded base and ogee bracket feet. Base section with a sunken rectangular panel. Waist section has chamfered corners and a lipped pendulum door with ogival scrolled top. The hood has free standing colums and a scrolled pediment with carved floral rosettes. The feet are replacements and the three finials are missing. Eight -day time and hour and half hour strike. The snail for the strike train is mounted on a star wheel instead of on the hour pipe, and a hand-set maintaining power source is provided. Silvered dial on sheet brass signed Peter Schwartz, York. Moon dial also silvered and painted. Calendar opening for the days of the month, and a rectangular opening at the 9:30 position which shows the days of the week. Dial is engraved foilage and bird designs. The seconds hand is in the shape of a stylized bird. Repair dates: Louis Miller, Oct. 19, 1870 (strike side barrel cover); C. R.
