Description |
Thirty -hour time and strike wood movement, with pull-up with weights made by Ephraim Downs for Read and Watson between 1815 and 1817. Wood break arch dial signed Read & Watson, Cincinnati, Ohio. Inscription is lettered around the inside of the chapter ring. Painting in break arch depicts an arbor with what appears to be a wisteria vine, with fence on either side. Seconds dial below the XII and a calendar dial above the VI. Cherry wood case with walnut and satinwood string inlay. The back consists of seperate pine boards attached horizontally. Break arch hood with 4 free standing turned wood columns. Three turned wood finials, circular inlay in rosettes, and a triangular inlay below the central finial. Break arch cut-outs on the sides of the hood. The waist door with a large inlayed walnut oval with satinwood stringing. Chamfered sides on the waist and base with rectangular inlays running the length of the chamfers. Oval walnut inlay with stringing in base and a band of walnut inlay and stringing 1 1/8" wide at the top and bottom front and sides. French style base. |
