Description |
C 1972 Fred A. Beeler skeleton Dead beat escapement with 3 3/4 inch escape wheel. The dead beat escapement is also called the Graham escapement, after its inventor, George Graham, in 1715. It is the escapement most commonly used in regulators. With this escapement, the escape wheel does not recoil. The seconds hand, if used, is seen to advance in crisp steps, second by second. The escapement was originally made so that the pallets embraced fifteen teeth. Then it was reduced to ten and, finally, eight. The teeth lean in to the pallets instead of away from them as the also do in the recoil escapement. |
