c. 1905 A. Lange and Sohne pocket watch 18K yellow gold minute repeating clock watch has hour and 1/4 hour strike. Center seconds chronograph with 30 minute register. Grand sonnerie can be set to strike hours and quarters automatically. Minute repeater operated by a slide. Two separate trains with winding accomplished through the pendant. One direction winds the time train, while opposite direction winds the strike train. White enamel dial reads, "A. Lange & Sohne / Glashutte B Dresden" and has Arabic numbers. Mounted in hunting case. Gold casing around dial is engraved, "Ruhe Schlagen / Stunden & Viertel / Viertel." Outside of case has scroll-type engraving. Case has 18K yellow gold chain with 14K yellow gold watch fob. Fob is round disk with eagle and six pointed star, which represents Leisy Brewery. Back is engraved, "Herbert F. Leisy, Jr. Sept 6, 1976" the clock watch was purchased from the firm of A. Lange & Sohne in Glashutte, Germany by the donor's grandfather Otto Leisy early in the 20th century. Three generations of the Leisy family had run the largest independent brewery in Cleveland, Ohio and achieved great success under Otto Leisy's management from 1892-1914. The Leisy/Lange clock watch can be set to strike the hours and quarters automatically (grand sonnorie) and includes a minute repeater, operated by a slide. A center seconds chonograph witha thirty minute register is an added complication. Two separate trains are used with winding accomplished through the pendant. One direction winding the time time train and the opposite direction winding the strike train. |
