Description |
c. 1974 Fred Smith escapement Model of Galileo's escapement using a pendulum for regulation. As early as 1583 Galileo Galilei had studied isochronism of swing bodies. In 1641 he explained how a pendulum could be used to control clockwork to his son, Vincenzo. A model similar to this reproduction was then made. It was the mathematician and scientist Christian Huygens who is credited with actually making the application of a pendulum to a clock circa 1657. |
