Description |
Tower clock, time and hour strike cast iron frame. Pendulum suspended within the frame . It was made by Jacob D. Custer, of Norristown, Pennsylvania. He was known as "the mechanical wizard of Norristown," and it was beleived that there wasn't a machine in existance that he couldn't fix or improve. All of his tower clocks are similar in design, and it is thought that he made over 100 tower clocks in his 66 years. This clock comes from the Methodist Church in Glassboro, New Jersey. The pendulum suspension is unique in that it is attached to the wooden frame within the movement. The placement of the motion work for the four dials is also unique, it is placed at the movement and uses two concentric pipes to drive the hands. |
