Compounded pulley system and large winding drums. Label inside reads "Patent Brass Eight-Day Clocks Manufactured by Joseph Ives, Bristol, Conn" and was printed by Joseph Hurlbut. Movement is housed in O.G. style case. Mahogany veneer. Reference The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, Second Edition, by Kenneth D. Roberts, 1988, page 171. The 8-day movement was made at the Burton Pond shop between 1836-9. It has a small 20 tooth escape wheel and conventional (not rolling) lantern pinions. Note the triple pulley system and large winding drums, which, combined with weights, is what drives the clock. Its length of run was actually 12 days. |
