c. 1975 Maynard E. Bell Orrery shelf clock Brass 30-day, double fusee, pin wheel escapement perpetual calendar clock with a knife suspension. Pendulum beats half seconds. The coup-perdu escapement, makes the sweep seconds hand register seconds. Main dial shows hours, minutes and seconds. Three subsidiary dials indicated left to right, days of the week, months and days of the month. The orrery at the top (dome missing) includes the sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars and Jupiter. Jupiter orbits the sun in 11 and 9/10 years. The orrery is operated by the clock movement or manually with a key. The time to construct the clock was approximately 2500 hours. Inscription on base of clock " Handcrafted by Maynard E. Bell, Toledo, Ohio, 1975. |
