c. 1780 Unknown maker carriage clock Pendule d' officier clock, time, strike and alarm. Strikes hours on one hammer and the quarter hours with two hammers. Chain driven fusee on the time side, regular spring barrel on the strike side, separate spring barrel and hammer for the alarm. Rack and snail strike, with snail stepped for quarter hour strikes (only the first three quarters). Strikes quarter hours on two bells, hours and alarm on one. Verge escapement. Balance spring attached to the back plate with a round engraved and pierced cock. Round disk on back marked Avanc and Retard. No other markings. Brass case with applied ornamentation on the front. Side openings with brass grills, cloth backing. Pineapple finials in the four corners, with an urn type finial in the center of the top arch. Acanthus leaf base to handle. Handle in form of a snake with the head holding the tail. Dial has black Arabic numerals and black hands. Back door missing. |
