Description |
8-day time and strike brass movement, dead beat escapement. rack and snail strike. Painted iron moon dial signed Jacoby Eby, Manheim above the VI. Sweep seconds and calendar hands. Federal tall case of cherry. Swan neck pediment hood with turned wooden urn finials, inlayed pinwheel rosette, and four free standing columns. Waist has an oval inlayed eagle medallion above the door, the eagle holding an arrow and an olive branch. Sixteen stars are arrayed above the eagle, representing the 16 States of the Union. This inlay is in turn centered within a string inlayed oval. A band of diamond inlay extends across the front and sides of the case just above the eagle. An oval of sting inlay runs the length of the door. At the base of the waist is another band of diamond inlay across the front and sides. The base is outlined at the top and sides with a band of inlay in a rope pattern. In the center of the base is an oval marquety inlay of a vase and flowers on a dark ground. This in turn is surrounded by a large oval of string inlay. At the bottom of the base, a band of inlay approximately 1/2 " wide consisting of alternating diamonds and checkered squares, outlined with string inlay above and below the band, extends across the front and sides of the case. The case stands on flared French feet. |
