Oak case with 2 panneled glass door, sides each have two glass panels. 8-day movement with jeweled bearings and pallets, dead beat escapement visable through winow in dial at 6:00, single weight, 4-jar mercury pendulum with glass tubes. Astronomical regulator dial with central unmarked minute track, hour track above with roman numerals and seconds below in Arabic. Dial engraved "E. Howard & Co. Makers Boston" |

Accessioned 27421 1 slide in slide cabinet 1 E. Howard & Company 8-day time only astro regulator. Howard No. 2 movement with Graham dead beat escapement, jeweled pallets, and jeweled pivots in the "in line" train. Movement attached to wooden seatboard mounted on brass brackets attached to back of case. Winding drums attached to the rear outside plate by an additional bracket. Maintaining power and a 4-jar mercurial pendulum 12.25" silvered dial marked "E Howard & Company Makers, Boston." Upper subsidiary dial indicates hours, and lower subsidiary dial indicates seconds. Minutes indicated from center arbor with no minute numerals. Counterbalance for the minute hand is behind the dial plate. Plain oak case with six glass panels is believed to be a replacement. C |
