Description |
Hepplewhite style inlaid scroll-top case, Osborne Roman dial with moon, eight-day brass weight-driven movement with inside count wheel strike, wooden winding drums sheathed with brass, cast brass frame pillars. Painted iron moon dial fwith seconds bit and calendar signed Isaac Brokaw, Bridge Town. The movement of this clock is typical of Isaac Brokaw's later work. It follows the basic pattern of those made by Aaron Miller, as do all the movements made by the Brokaw family, though here a brass winding drum is used instead of a wooden one, and turned brass frame pillars are used instead of the earlier tapered steel ones. The inside count wheel strike is used, an unusual feature on American 8-day clocks, but common to the clocks of Aaron Miller and the Brokaw family. The Federal style case is typical of the work of eastern New Jersey cabinetmakers, Oliver Parsell and Matthew Edgerton, Jr. of New Brunswick, or John Scudder of Elizabeth Town. |
