Rounding Up Tool- mid 19th century
Rounding up tool on maple base with dowels for accessories. No accessories are present.
The blanc section of the tooth or a form fitted to the blade keeps the blade from cutting at the bottom of the tooth and angles it to give the rounded cut at the top.
After the wheel cutting engine divides and cuts the wheel into an equal number of teeth, the wheel is left with flat straight teeth. These must then be rounded to a shape which will better mesh with the various pinions and wheels of the watch.
The rounding up tool completes the teeth by cutting a slight round to the top of each tooth.
